Antique & Period Glassworks is one of those niche businesses for whom it is a real pleasure to build a website. Not least because business owner Keith Nelson’s core product line - stained glass creations and glass window restorations of great intricacy - consists of stunning artworks that photograph beautifully. So we had great images to feature on every page of the design.
The bulk of the website is composed of a homepage overview and five services pages with more detailed descriptions of the precise services available. The RWD team may have started this project ignorant of the differences between stained glass and leadlight windows. However, working in an agency that builds websites for businesses in every corner of the market, you have to be a fast learner. This week we’re all experts on glass restoration, next week it might be injection moulding, automated doors or Greek cuisine!
The beautiful images supplied by the client needed an equally beautiful website design.
Logo and colour palette. A&P Glassworks provided us with an image of their beautifully detailed logo, which we vectorised to ensure those details shine through at best quality when used throughout the website. We extracted the core colour bases from the logo to create a colour palette to refer to when designing the website.
Easy navigation. The structure of the website was based on our understanding of the client’s business and brand values. Stained glass creation and restoration is a traditional and beautiful service, and the website needed to communicate this with information well displayed amongst the imagery and a simple navigation.
Typeface selection. Our designer identified features of a typeface for headers that would suit the unique and traditional style of this business, and then researched a typeface that met these criteria whilst still being legible to the viewer at different screen sizes and resolutions.
Prioritised images. Keith supplied us with a library of beautiful images representing the range of services on offer. We used the website to showcase these to the furthest extent, immediately grabbing the attention of the viewer.
